Soufflet Malteries WWTP - Buzau

In order to fullfill the parameters imposed for industrial effluents discharge into natural receptors, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies Romania realized the WasteWater Treatment Plant for Soufflet Malteries. The project is a design and built of a treatment plant specifically adapted to this type of influent, using best suitable technologies, in order to comply with NTPA001 normes for discharge of the treated water into Buzau river.

The plant was designed for a influent flow of 1046m3/day of residual technological water resulted daily from the malt factory process.

The treatment process consists in building new technological structures and providing necessary equipment:

Reception and homogenisation tank

·Buffering capacity for the daily discharge flows ensuring both homogenisation and constancy of residual water upstream of the treatment facilities; the tank is equipped with hydraulic mixers and variable frequency driven transfer pumps; automatic sampling device is ensuring online monitoring of the influent loads;

Fine rotary screening station

·Pretreatment phase, designed to remove large biologically slowly degradable solids, pieces of cereals; resulted solids wastes are discharge by the mean of helical conveyors into specialized containers;

Anaerobic tank

·Anaerobic area was designed as a first phase of biological treatment of phosporous, anaerobic environmentcreating optimal conditions to specialized bacterias accumulating phosporous compounds; REDOX monitoring is adjusting operation of slow stirer mixer;

Annular prolonged aeration activated sludge treatment tank

·Biological treatment phase using aerobic bacteria which in oxygen conditions accumulate the pollutants as a substrate for their growth, the pollution compounds being oxidized into carbon dioxide and water; in the mean time the aerobic bacterias are flocks forming contributing to sedimentation process of coloidal polutants in the final settlement; aeration diffusers attached to concrete radial beams were designed in order to permit their removal in case of accidental failures; tehnological air is ensured by a centralized blowers station, variable frequency driven based on dissolved oxigen sensors signals;

Central clarifier

·Activated sludge and treated water are separated in the central clarifier, settled sludge is recicled to aeration tank via anaerobic area and the treated water is diverted from treated water tank through a Venturi flowmeter, being discharged into Buzau river; an automatic sampling device is ensuring effluent loads monitoring, a pHmonitoring unit being also included;

Excess sludge storage tank

·Activated excess sludge is extracted and send to the sludge storage tankl; the structure is ensuring temporary storage before dewatering phase; sludge mixing is ensured by fine bubbles diffusers; supernatant is diverted to biological tank and sludge is pumped to dewatering station;

Sludge dewatering station

·Sludge dewatering is ensured by a belt press unit up to a dryness of 12-13%; polymere preparation and dosing unit is fully automated, as all the dewatering process line; tehnological water is using treated effluent water; dewatered cake is diverted by helical conveyor and discharged into specialized containers;

Sand filter

·Was designed for complementary treatment of the effluent that is re-used as technological water for the malt factory; the sand filter has a continous self-cleaning system ensuring permanent operation;

The full treatment process is automated and monitored by a integrated SCADA system.
