Baia Mare WWTP

After 36 months work, Thursday, 7th of October 2010 took place, the inauguration of Baia Mare wasted water treatment plant located in the county of Maramureş (Romania). Istvan Ludescher, Deputy Mayor of Baia Mare, Geza Gasparik, General Manager of SC Vital, Sub Prefect Gyonkyike Bondi and VWS representatives Vasile Chindriş (Project Manager), Gheorghe Neacşu (Execution Manager), Serge Oană (VWS Romania Manager) and Christoph Ploux (vice-president VWS Europe Municipal PECO) participated in the opening ceremony.

OTV France SNC through VWS Romania renovated this wasted water treatment station for the local water management company SC Vital SA Baia Mare. The value of the contract was of 11.6 million euros. The treatment capacity is of 1448 l/s for a population of 165 000 inhabitants. The pre-treatment stage did not exist and had thus been included in the project. This solution, specific to OTV is a classical one: coarse screen rakes, raw water pumping station, fine screen rakes, desander, oil separator, detritus compacting, sand clearing-basin. Primary sedimentation tanks, activated sludge tanks with surface aerator and clarifiers had been renovated for the civil engineering part. The mechanical part is new. For sludge treatment, 14 m sludge settlers have been built. The sludge is thickened at 20 % through a belt filter and a liming treatment is applied in order to achieve a 35% thickening. The station is entirely managed through a SCADA system.
