WWTP Buzau

The wastewater treatment plant from Buzau is located in the eastern part of the town in the vicinity of Buzau river and it was built in 2 stages: between 1964-65 and 1975-76.

With the aim of achieving the quality parameters imposed by EU's regulations, the company Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies Romania designed and built for RAM Buzau a project of refurbishment of the wastewater treatment plant. The new project benefits from the most advanced technology and new equipment thus ensuring that its performance surpasses the required standards.

The plant was designed for a flow of 46,000 m3/day and a treatment capacity of 235,000 P.E.

The refurbishment of existing works included the up-grading of the whole treatment line, namely:

  • the pre-treatment phase, responsible for the retention of the bulky suspension, sand and fats, was refurbished with coarse and fine screens and equipment for pumping, grit and grease removal units.
  • primary clarifiers were renovated to capture a part from the suspension pollution to protect the following stages of the treatment
  • the influent is then diverted to a high-loaded activated sludge aeration tank where a high portion of the organic material is removed
  • in the sludge treatment line were included the following stages: thickening, anaerobic digestion and dewatering by centrifugation
  • the biogas produced by the sludge digestion will supply a cogeneration system that will further produce electric energy and provide heating for the technical facilities.
